The kaleidoscopic narrative also involves a number of other characters as Knightley and Whishaw sink deeper and deeper into an increasingly inscrutable plot, with the body count piling up around them in mountainous proportions, sometimes at their hands, while Whishaw still has time to rekindle an old romance. The sharply directed and authentic performances of its A-list stars somehow fell short of its initial promise for me, relying too much on coincidence, gunplay, and unusual characters. By the time everything is resolved at the end, I felt like I had fallen somewhere between James Bond-style fantasy and Le Carré-style realism, where escape ultimately won out. I was wrong, he killed her. The same goes for Ben Whishaw, who also looks like he weighs 100 pounds. Both were completely believable in their roles. I had a lot of fun watching it and devoured all 6 episodes over the weekend. Once I started watching, I was hooked. I’m glad they’re planning a second season because one isn’t enough. I want to see more of these characters and the world they’ve built here. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
